War Between Two Villages

Every year the young men of Senegal return home to help their families with
the harvest during the monsoon season. The Navetanes football competition
is the highlight of their stay. During this championship people meet to
share their passion of “le foot.” In the past, the honor of a village
was defended in a local war but now it is defended on the football field.
Neighboring villages and towns play to win. Unity and fair play on the
field are combined with religion and holy marabouts, making the Navetanes a
representation of the passions and culture of the Senegal people.
